A classic western adventure in a spectacular rugged wilderness setting, this unusual hunt offers the opportunity to see and with skill and luck, bag a large bull or buck away from roads and crowds. Bear Basin Hunting trips take place within the Sangre De Cristo Wilderness Area, utilizing several camp locations, moving high or low depending upon weather conditions and the varying patterns of the herds.
This hunt takes place on the 3,500 acre private ranch, where lodging is in a rustic bunk house or a condominium unit in nearby Westcliffe and horses are not used. Travel is by 4x4 vehicle and foot around the Ranch. The rugged rocky hills and timbered slopes of the ranch are a protected and choice habitat for large antlered deer. Later, herds of migrating elk, sometimes numbering more than a hundred, graze across the ranch’s Bone Yard Park on their way to lower winter pasture.
