★★★★★I hunted Semi guided 1st rifle 2025 with Storm Peak, Mike and his crew are as genuine as you get. Many laughs and professional outfit, I unfortunately did not see a bull but I did see a few cows, mule deer and bear. It was a special site seeing the family involvement and the family pride onsite. Look forward to bring my little one in a few years for a youth hunt. Memories of a lifetime were created during this trip and I can’t wait to get back in 2026 or 2027 depending on my draw results.
★★★★★Storm Peak is a hidden gem! Mike and his crew are top notch, overly helpful and hospitable. accommodations are incredible. and the food will spoil you. We chose to do a drop camp, and had a great time and ultimately took a herd bull. the area is game rich and some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen. Mike went above and beyond on the inbound and the outbound and even had us stay for a day of celebration and relaxation back at the lodge. will be back!

This was my first time Elk hunting (chose to do archery) and I would definitely go back! Mike and his staff are very knowledgeable and do what ever they can to see you succeed. I did not harvest 1, however, I had great encounters and it was only my fault that I did not punch my tag. I would highly recommend them to anyone!
★★★★★We just had a 3 Day family reunion at storm Peak lodge. We occupied both cabins. We had a wonderful time. The cabins contained everything we needed to cook, sleep and have fun. The kids all enjoyed the pool room, some went hiking some just sat around and visited. Mike's employees were friendly and very helpful. Mike was the perfect host. Thank you Mike and your family. I was lucky enough to stay on the property - the crew was awesome, the vibe was unmatched, and the whole experience felt like stepping into a life you'd want to keep living.

The cabins are very clean, comfortable and have a fantastic view for those downtimes between hunts. Brian cooks the best meals you’ll ever have in a hunt camp. I can’t say anything but good about the team at Storm Peak! Plenty of Bulls to hunt of course as well.
★★★★☆First and foremost, Mike, his family, the staff, and the other clients I spoke to and interacted with were kind, considerate, and just a pleasure to be around. Everyone went out of their way to insure we were comfortable and taken care of. Just first class people in every way imaginable. Our horseback trek to the drop camp was excellent. Sure footed easy horses that led well. The drop camp was as advertised with all necessary items and a nearby water source. This is where issues beyond the control of Storm Peak began to impact the hunt. First challenge was a high number of grazing cattle. It's not that cattle and elk can't interact, it was more of an issue not spooking the cattle and have them go running down the mountain. These aren't your flat land angus, they are tough bred western cattle use to avoiding predators. In our case, the weather was good and the cattle were still at 11000' and we ran into them daily. Each open meadow had significant grazing pressure that made the grasses less desirable for the elk. ( My opinion). Second challenge was the good weather created a large amount of mixed use on the forest. It belongs to all of us, therefore mixed use is fine except for the motorcycle riders that dropped into non motorized areas a good 1.5 miles from the legal trail. Again way beyond Storm Peak control. Many hunters prioritize the kill as a measure of success. We don't and no we didn't. There were 4 elk bought into camp during our visit so there were definitely elk in the area and hunters were in contact with them. Our limited experience may have been a factor and a semi guided hunt may be a better choice next time. Yes, I believe there will be a next time and it will be with Storm Peak. ★★★★☆The guide (Vito) we had was young but very knowledgeable of the land and the elk and wasn't afraid to put in the work to help us try to close the deal on a bull. We had seen elk 4 out of the 5 days just nothing close enough or couldn't get them to come out of the dark timber. The other guide we had guiding the other (2) hunters in our group was very green. However with that being said they did manage to get with in shooting range of bull's 3 out of the 5 days of hunting with one guy from our group hitting a bull but unfortunately couldn't find it. Overall we were happy with Storm Peak Outfitters. Mike was very personable and talked with all his guides to determine the best area to send all his hunters. The food was absolutely amazing! Even though we came home with no elk the experience was amazing. It was a pretty cool setup. Be curious to see how the new lodge will be when it is completed.

★★★★★SPO is a first class operation. The accommodations were clean and quaint, the food was great and abundant and the guides were knowledgeable and genuinely interested in your success. My guide, Garrett, made the hunt extremely enjoyable. While we didn’t harvest….warm weather and leaves still on the aspens….we did hear and see elk, albeit at a distance. The San Juan mountains are steep and high…..get in shape! I would certainly hunt with this outfit again
★★★★★My twins boys and I had planned this hunt for 2 1/2 years and it was a great hunt and overall experience. We utilized the guided hunt service and we hunted with Bryce. The weather was unusually warm and we struggled to locate the elk. One of the boys tagged out on the second day which was a great experience. Unfortunately that was the only elk we saw. The lodging was great and the personal attention was appreciated. There's a lot to be said for a hot shower and soft bed after a long day of hiking, glassing and sweating. For meals, breakfast was minimal as everyone was trying to get something in their belly and out on the mountain before the sun came up. We made lunches to take with us in the event we were still on the mountain hunting at lunchtime. If you're back at the lodge for lunch, there was sandwiches, soup/stew, fresh fruit and something sweet. And the evening meal was fantastic. We had great meals and there was plenty of food. The night we dropped the bull we got back around 11 pm. They had saved plates for each of us and then Mike and some of the others listened as we retold the story of the hunt. 1of 3 is better than average for this unit so we feel lucky to leave with one tag notched and meat for the freezer. But this was an experience we'll remember for a lifetime. Thanks, Mike, Bryce and the rest of the crew.
★★★★☆In discussion with my 2 hunting partners the stay was amazing and the food was very good as well and they catered to my dietary needs as best as possible. We did the economy hunt and we’re told what areas to go into and hunt. The guides were very nice and knowledgeable about the area but unfortunately we saw very few elk, 2 total in 7 days of hard hunting and glassing even when we were told where to go and where the bulls were bugling. Add not hear a single bugle. As this is the first year of operations for Storm peak outfitters under new ownership we was not sure what to expect. Tags are pretty easy to get however the area is very, very steep. Each day we averaged 2000 or more feet in elevation climbs starting from 8800 to 9500 and up to 10500 to 12500 and averaged 7-8 miles a day. In pre scouting this area, I found some great areas on my own which were also an area recommended by the outfitters and in that area I or we did call in one elk, first morning ( blew that stalk) and some coyotes a couple days later. We also hunted the first week of archery when bugling is low and locating elk is much harder. Over all a good experience but at (at least for my family and friends) expensive and somewhat disappointed that we saw so few elk. Mike Davis was nice enough to get my son (on his first ever elk hunt) into elk the last day. On another good note awesome scenery and area. At some point ai would use these outfitters again if ai can save enough money. I also will say the fishing was great on the Dolores river and we learned a lot about the area and could hunt on our own at some point in the future or use SPO. Mike Davis does know his stuff.

★★☆☆☆There were 4 experience hunters that paid $9,400 for an Archery Elk hunt drop camp mid September 2023. The camp was well equipped and we enjoyed packing in on horse back. The issue was we were told by Mike, that no one was going to hunt out of our drop camp prior to us arriving. This is why we choose Storm Peak Outfitters. When we arrived, we were told they had a group of muzzle loader hunters 4 days prior to our arrival in this drop camp. They harvested at least one bull 300 yards from the camp .Knowing how sensitive Elk are to pressure was a big concern to us all. We hunted hard for 6 days and never saw or heard an elk (imagine that)! We actually ended up leaving camp a day early. Such a waste of time and money. With all the glassing and hiking we did, all we spotted were a few mule deer doe. The fact he put guys in camp that departed 4 days prior to our arrival, is absolutely wrong on Mikes part, he did not honor his word. Upon leaving, the packers never asked about how our hunt went and Mike never contacted any of us either. The above reasons is why we decided to write this review, so others don't get taken advantage of.

★★★★★Just recently returned after spending a week hunting with Storm Peak Outfitters. When it comes to elk hunting this is a no-frills type of establishment. It’s the real deal, super authentic. You’re gonna work for it, but it’ll be well worth it. The hospitality was exceptional. Staff were excellent. The guides will become your friends. And Mike Davis is possibly the most knowledgeable individual that you can have at unit 71. I will definitely be returning next year!
★★☆☆☆Accommodations were excellent. Getting to elk country on horse or mule, excellent. Guides experience in elk calling questionable. My guide had elk in close(80 yards archery) but only knew two calls, cow and locate. That's it, no other calling or setup tactics to call the bulls into bow range. After 4 1/2 days of hunting I never had an opportunity to draw my bow. I did see elk but to say that is opportunity is a far reach. EXTRA COMMENTS TO OUTFITTERS RESPONSE : OMG, really! You blame the hunter's willingness to get into bow range! It is up to your guide to have the experience and knowledge when a bull hangs up to do what it takes to get the hunter into shooting range. After forking out $7000 I would think you would school/train your guides. If I would have known your guide was to only put me into elk and the rest was up to me I would have practiced my elk calling before coming out.
