This was a last moment attempt and Ralph got my husband and I a 2 hour ride. Stunning! Husband and I have done 6-7 rides in as many states and by far this was the most beautiful ride. Ralph was just the right balance of sharing knowledge and quietly enjoying the gorgeous landscape up on mountain trails. We learned a lot thanks to his years of experience in the area so that was the icing on the cake. He was genuine and friendly. I felt confident in his care. Our horses were well cared for, well mannered, and sure footed. Trust your horse they know what they are doing. But look out for the geese, lol, they aren’t as friendly. Thank you Ralph for an awesome ride. Sorry for lack of pictures we were too busy ohhhing and ahhhing.

Wonderful 2 hour ride with Ralph and our horses Cheyenne and Whiskey. This is a small outfit and it’s just your party going out for the ride which makes the experience all the more incredible. Will definitely return on future trips!

We had an amazing and wonderful ride and experience with Ralph. Our initial trip got cancelled due to wind storm and several trees down (issues with Mother Nature just happen), but he was able to get us scheduled a couple days later. (Please realize unexpected things can happen with Mother Nature and these animals). It was an absolutely enjoyable ride up the mountain. Best part was that it was just the 3 of us (myself, wife and daughter). No people. No loud crowds. Just us and nature. (Except 2 hikers and 2 shed hunters). If you’re wanting a large, outdoor adventure with a lot of hype, several riders, this is not it. This is a laid back, small outfitter with a real working farm that provides wonderful experiences. We will most certainly be back to see Ralph, and hopefully Whiskey, Cheyenne and Blue (our horses ❤️). Thank you Ralph!!

A friend and I hunted with Ralph and found a new friend in Montana. The elk where everywhere and we where both successful. Hoping to return

We recently hunted elk and mule deer with Ralph and specimen creek outfitters. This review has nothing to do with hunting success. We actually harvested 2 mule deer. This is more about what we were told vs what we experienced. We were told we would be hunting on horse back part of the time, but we did not use horses at all. Instead I used my truck most of the time to get to the trail heads. We were told there is a large bunk room for sleeping but we stayed in a small shed that barely fit the 3 of us and our gear. We were given the option to stay in town and Ralph would pay for it but that would have been an enormous inconvenience for us to have to drive back and forth from town not to mention the extra time that would have taken each day. There were 4 other hunters in camp but we were told no one else would be there. Not a big deal, and everyone was amazing but just another misleading item. Before the next part I want to mention the weather was very warm for mid November, which cannot be controlled. There were 4 guides in camp. 2 of which were awesome, 1 seemed to have given up on being able to find elk and the other lacked the basic gear and knowledge that you would expect for a guide to have. Unfortunately we got the last one. He lacked clothes to stay warm, binos, range finder, bear spray, side arm and had no idea how to find elk. The warm temps had 2 of the guides lost on what to do. The most disappointing thing about this whole trip was the method of hunting. Ralph told me that he had the ability to hunt 313 and 316 and we would be glassing and moving but no mention of how they actually hunt. Once we arrived, we were told hunting the rest of the units was a waste of time. The plan each day was to sit along the yellow stone border waiting on elk to cross. With colder weather I’m sure this does work at times but I've never seen so many hunters crammed into one area. Horses from other outfitters chasing elk and cutting other hunters off. If you were lucky enough to shoot an elk you had better drop him in his tracks, otherwise there would be hunters near you that would finish it off. Hunter etiquette is lacking in this area. To end on a positive note, the food was amazing thanks to Jimmy and a shout out to 2 of the guides, Jordan, and Zach, for their efforts and professionalism. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not align with what we were promised, and the level of pressure in the area, partial guide inexperience and lack of transparency make this an outfitter we cannot recommend.

Booked two months in advance, the day before our ride I messaged the guy confirming our ride since I had not heard from him since booking. He replies with "sorry, have to shut her down" a text or call would have been appreciated due to this being a planned trip! No reply after that. I fully believe that if I would not have text him, we would have showed up that day awaiting disappointment. Seems to be an on going thing with them. Book else where. Poor customer service.

My daughter and I had a wonderful one hour ride with Ralph. Would definitely recommend .

I booked a horseback ride a month in advance by texting Ralph, who assured me we were all set. We showed up today to horseback ride, and the employee working said she did not have us scheduled, and that this was typical behavior of Ralph. It is the last day of our trip and we are very disappointed. I texted Ralph to inform him, and he left me on read. If you want to horseback ride in Gardiner, book with someone else!

Wow wow wow!!!!incredible views. Ralph and Echo took us out with our 3 kids. 1st the place is very intimate and Giallitan National Forest is 10 million acres. The views were incredible!! My daughter felt a little scared so Ralph walked her horse the entire way back which was super kind and sweet. The horses were awesome! Echo was awesome to talk with about the area and the forest. Very very cool!!! Definitely recommend Ralph & Echo! To put into perspective Yellowstone is 2.2 million acres and Gallitan is over 10 million. It’s only about 15 minutes from Gardiner.

Don't know they got back to me once and then I asked what time, no response. So we ended up not going. I tried to make an appointment/schedule a ride. Kinda bummed we missed out on that part of our vacation. I would love to give them 5 stars like the other stuff in the area I visited but that's difficult when you have no actual event to rate.

We went as a family, and I was a little nervous about my 7 year old that has never rode, but that quickly went away. The girls were so good and incredibly organized! The whole family loved the 2 hour ride. This was one of the biggest highlights of our Yellowstone vacation. The horses were so chill and well trained.

It was a nice ride. Just beware of the bait and switch price. Booked from a brochure at the rv park by text. His brochure. At the end of the ride, we paid 115% more.

Ralph Johnson totally blew us off! Didn't even show up, at least you pay after the ride that we didn't even go on! GO TO HELL'S A ROARIN OUTFITTERS INSTEAD! Or better yet, go to: YELLOWSTONE ROUGHRIDERS (it's through Yellowstone park)

Incredible guide and mountain trail ride!

Best experience of our Yellowstone Park trip. Trail ride with Specimen Creek Outfitters was amazing as we rode through one of the picturesque trail in the beautiful Gallatin National forest. We were happily surprised to see how easily they accommodated beginners with no horseback riding experience. I would highly recommend if you are even remotely interested in this adventure. Ditch your Bikes, ATVs & other vehicles for once and explore true Montana in Montana style.
