Rugged Rack Outfitters, established in 2001 and now owned by Robert and Kelsey Simpson, offers fully guided hunts on game-rich private and public lands in Western Colorado. They specialize in mule deer, elk, black bear, and mountain lion hunting, providing experienced guides, home-cooked meals, and comfortable accommodations for a memorable experience.
Another option we have is a Management Mule Deer Hunt. These take place on our private ranches to keep our genetic gene pool strong. We only harvest mature deer that possess good genetics and let our younger deer grow.
We specialize in fully guided hunts. Our quality shot opportunity rates are excellent on mule deer and elk every year, (90%+) for rifle deer/elk & archery deer, 70% archery elk.
Our most popular hunt is our Colorado Mule Deer hunt. We target mature bucks usually ranging between 170"-200" or larger.
We offer both bull elk and cow elk hunts. The average bull harvested with Rugged Rack Outfitters is usually between 250" and 280." The opportunity is there for a much bigger bull depending on your physical capabilities and the terrain you're able to hunt. Elk hunts are mostly spot and stalk with some tree stand and ground blind setups as well as calling during the rut. Rag-horns to 330-340 B&C bull elk can be expected in these units.

We offer fully guided bear hunts Sept. 2-30. Color phase bears are very common.
Rugged Rack Outfitters offer fully guided mountain lion hunts from Dec. 1- March 31. These hunts are nothing like deer or elk hunts and can be rated on a scale from mild to excruciating. They start early in the mornings and are usually weather dependent, being more successful after a fresh snow. It is not uncommon for the weather to be in the negative digits. Highly trained hound dogs are used during mountain lion hunts to help track and locate the animal.
