REVIEW – Ripple Creek Our group had a very disappointing and unsafe experience with Ripple Creek. The lodge and accommodations were completely misrepresented online — the “beautiful lodge” shown in photos was actually a small, rundown building. The hunt itself was poorly organized, with hunters placed dangerously close together and vehicles in unsafe condition (bad brakes, flat tires, no tow straps). We were promised access to 2,500+ acres with 45,000 adjoining acres, but our group was confined to over-pressured, low-elevation public areas with virtually no elk activity. Meanwhile, another group received exclusive access to the prime high-elevation area and harvested multiple bulls. When we respectfully raised our concerns, the owner became defensive, even admitting we had been misled and treated unfairly. Several guides, including the owner’s own cousin, told us they were disappointed in how the operation was run and would not return. It’s clear this outfitter has ongoing issues with honesty, organization, and fairness. We cannot recommend Ripple Creek and urge anyone considering booking to do thorough research before spending their money here.

Our stay at the Ripple Creek Lodge was a terrible experience. Cutthroat Cabin has mice and was the primary reason we quit our vacation early. There was mice excrement in the living, eating, and sleeping quarters. Other reasons for our complete dissatisfaction include the following: When we booked our stay, months before our vacation, we requested a half-day guided fishing trip. Dan, the owner, said he would take care of that when we arrived. Upon arrival, no guides were available. This was a big reason we chose Ripple Creek Lodge. At first arrival we had to request staff to fix the refrigerator and stove so they would function. They were not prepared for our visit, there is no formal check-in. Staff laughed when we complained about the mice and did not respond to our complaint. The kitchenette had no cookware and dinnerware. Light bulbs were missing, and the rooms were dark. Sheets were ratty and had holes. The bath mat was disgusting - a grotesque health hazard. The shower curtain dragged on to the floor, being too long for the shower. The water temperature fluctuated between scalding and cold. There are no locks for the cabins. The second night we were there, we woke up to the noise of mice at 3 am and had to clean a big mess of mice excrement on our clean cookware left on the kitchen counter. We left at first light that morning. We were not going to spend one minute extra in that disgusting place. When I called Dan, and requested a refund, he told me I am not a man, because I didn’t tell him we were leaving to his face. The statement infers the threat of violence. I received an invoice for the balance of the two nights, above the deposit paid months ago. The host had no concern for his guests. We don't get to vacation often, so this trip was a big deal for us. The Ripple Creek Website is at best, misleading. Not only would I not recommend Ripple Creek Lodge, they should not even be in business. The health department would probably shut them down.

Well we rented a cabin for 2 nights as my family was having a big even up the road from the lodge. They were great to let me rent the cabin for a second night. The 2 young staff members were so friendly but the owner did not have a friendly attitude. As we walked into our cabin my Granddaughter screamed and refused to walk in until we cleaned all the spider webs ALL over the cabin including the ceiling. It was horrible. There was a good sized burned hole in the wall they they have not fixed, they could at least pit a picture over it. The bunk bed had no ladder so my Grandson had to pull a chair up and jump hitting his head on the low ceiling. The top bunk had a mattress that was to small so he had to fill the space with a pellow so he wouldn't fall down behind. My Granddaughter was so afraid of the bugs that she would sleep alone. I had to wake up at 3 just to walk through and clean up the spider webs and spiders just so I could get her to use the bathroom. Now this is one of the worst parts, we had an event that they knew I was attending so I of course needed a full bathroom with a shower as was advertised. My poor Granddaughter got into the shower one not even a minute later the water was ice cold. So I had to clean her up with a cold wash cloth and no one was able to wash our hair so we could even attend the event with clean hair. The lodge was empty of employees so we had to wait till we saw anyone outside to even get information. We finally just lost out on the money from the second night and didn't get to attend the family even for the second night because I literally could not get my Granddaughter to stay there. We were so excited to stay there and now I wish we would of just drove back and forth from town. Horrible stay. I will never stay there again. Oh and by the way you have no way to lock the cabin for safety of your items when you leave

We placed a deposit for a hunt (9/23), canceled less than 60 days later (11/23), and were told they would not refund the money until July (7/24), and we are out $2000. No one will return our calls or emails, our bank is trying to seek legal action, and to no avail... we are OUT! This may be a legitimate business, but they legitimately stole $2000 of our cash. Here is there policy: Refund Policy 100% of the deposit is refunded is the hunt is canceled prior to the 1st Tuesday in April. 50% of the deposit is refunded if the hunt is canceled between the 1st Tuesday in April and 90 days prior to the start of the hunt. There will not be a refund issued if your hunt is canceled less than 90 days prior to the start of the hunt. You may also apply your deposit to a later season at anytime for 100% credit All refunds are issued on July 1st

Married less than a month ago, I just arrived in Colorado. I am an avid hiker and love horseback riding. My husband loves fishing. We were super excited to experience an “authentic Colorado experience”. Nothing was fun or welcoming about our stay. The website makes outright false statements. None of the rooms have a full bath. None of the rooms have wifi. We were told when we drove in they would bring us a grill that the cabin was supposed to come with, but they didn’t. We ended up having to drive to town on the Fourth of July to buy the “essentials” just to be able to cook food to eat. Dining was not available or offered, but we saw multiple vehicles drive up and enter the lodge that seemed abandoned when we went by. The cabin we were initially placed in had the depressing feel of a ghetto apartment with a couple of pieces of abandoned furniture, white walled and stark. It came with a ghost. Some people love that kind of stuff. I am not one of them. Middle of the night, I was reading, and a kids voice kept telling me “hey, come on, get up,” “come on! Get up.” “Let’s go!” Next day, in the middle of a shower, the room went pitch black and the water went ice cold. Nobody bothered to tell us that the electricity had went out or how to turn the hot water on; and we were the only people staying at the lodge. We had to hunt down somebody that worked there who said she would find the owner, Dan. Dan came to the cabin and explained that somebody had plugged in a wall heater and nothing with a heating element could be used. I asked about the coffee machine we had just bought and he said nope. He watched my husband building the grill and didn’t comment on the grill he said he was going to bring by but didn’t. I asked if we might be able to move to a different cabin. He said he would check. I asked about keys, so we could lock up our stuff when we went out for the day and he said No keys. So we were expected to leave costly fishing and hiking gear in an unlocked cabin or leave stuff in the car when we were out exploring. We ended up packing up all our gear moving to a different cabin which was so much cuter. It had a sink! And no ghost but it did have critters chewing on the porch steps all night. I love wildlife so it was cool shooing a giant porcupine off very carefully from a distance. The Wapiti cabin was wonderful. It was charming and comfortable. I saw Dan walking by at one point and asked him if I could use the lodge to heat up some water for coffee and tea. He said he would bring me some hot water. A friendly woman, Kerrie, came by with a thermos and mentioned we could get coffee in the morning at the lodge. I told her we had gone to the lodge in the morning and nobody was there. She said it opened up about 5:30-6 and the lodge had wifi, but they were a little late this morning. It was deserted every time we went (except for one morning when we were abled to get coffee when the cook was making breakfast for the lodge employees). I felt really uncomfortable asking Dan about anything with his deadpan, I could bury you in a shallow grave off property, serial killer stare, so I attempted to book fishing and riding activities online but couldn’t access wifi. I’ve hiked, camped, backpacked all over the world. I’ve stay in tents, hostels, cabins and hotels, and never have I paid to feel as UNWELCOME as we felt staying at Ripple Creek Lodge. Despite the beauty of the area, we ended up leaving 2 days earlier than planned. Food and water are essentials. I just wasn’t going to keep hunting people down to beg for boiled water. Tried to find somebody somewhere to let them know we were headed out, but couldn’t find anybody. Summary: The cabins and grounds don’t look like the pictures on the website and the amenities and activities advertised on the website weren’t available. And finally, any business involved in the hospitality industry should provide hospitality, and I didn’t find that at Ripple Creek Lodge.

My daughter and I went hunting for 3rd season elk in 2018 and had a great time. Dan and his staff took great care of us. We did not harvest an elk, but that's why its called hunting and not shooting. If you want a guaranteed harvest, I suggest you go to a ranch and shoot one that's fenced in or tied to a tree for you. Don't be so damn lazy - do the work. We returned for the 1st day of summer with my wife and daughter's boy friend. Dan was able to make it snow, so the placed looked just like it did when we hunted. All 4 of us had an amazing time the second time around. This place is beautiful, the food is outstanding, the cabins have a rustic charm, and the staff is so friendly and accommodating. We will be back to hunt and vacation with them again. Thanks Dan and your friendly staff for always taking care of us. We look forward to seeing you again!

I was at Ripple Creek for a Men's Retreat with the American Warrior Association. Dan and his staff took very good care of us for the week. The scenery at Ripple Creek is beautiful. The staff took great care of us on our horseback ride up to Mirror Lake and always made sure we had enough to eat! We ate well everyday we were there, great ribs and huge pork chops! Paid for 6 people in our camp and had supplies for 4.We arrived to camp the tents were down from snow, broken poles we had to fix! Literally had to cut the poles ourselves from the downed wood by the camp. Dan sent his wife and a boy in with us and as we were leaving on horses to go up. he stated "you might have to help them fix some stuff". Holes in the Tents size of your fist, good thing I had some duct tape, it was 15 degrees, Had to beg for more propane! Had a man break a hip on 2nd day and took 2 days to come back and get us!! This is unsafe!! We are not old 40-50 years old. Don't let him tell you that the bad reviews he receives are old fat people who couldn't take it, like he did us and we believed. DO NOT BOOK with this outfitter!!!!!! I am also lodging a complaint with the outfitters association. I have been elk hunting for 25 years! Please heed my warning! I have taken many drop camp trips and there are good outfitters out there. this is not one of them.

Was in camp for 2nd season rifle season Oct 22nd 2018...between 2 drop camps and the guided lodge hunters, there was 26 of us total. Our hunt started on Monday, each morning we would take horses up the mountain and hunt for the day. First 2 days I saw 3-5 hunters each sit.....half of the entire camp left by the 4th day including one of the drop camps...over hunted and over booked DO NOT BOOK HERE IF YOU INTEND ON SHOOTING/SEEING ELK....26 guys and less than 10 elk sighted....The meals each night were very good, but if your coming to shoot an elk during the second season I would say you have a better shot of getting one and or seeing one in my backyard in Ohio....the guides at ripple creek can only do so much, they work HARD everyday and are very inviting to the hunters...very hard to guide an elk hunt in an area where there is more hunters than elk by 10x. The owner Dan rarely leaves the kitchen or his office.I have never felt more UNWELCOMED to a place I choose to spend my money..6 days there 12k for the 3 hunters I was with and never even had a conversation with him.This is my first review ever written...if you looking to book an elk hunt in Colorado stay as FAR AWAY as you can from Ripple Creek Outfitters

I wanted to extend my deepest appreciation and gratitude towards Dan and his phenomenal crew at Ripple Creek Lodge. I am a member and somewhat the proprietor of a group of dedicated sportsman and hunters called Team Wasabi. Myself and one other started this adventure back in 1977 and have hunted with many outfitters over the years along with an untold number DIY hunts. One of our team reached out to Dan earlier this year and we all agreed to partake in his services on a "drop camp" second elk season rifle hunt in Colorado's Flat Top Mountains. Almost 3/4 of a year passed, equipment, excitement, along with high expectations were gathered and culminated on our meeting at the Ripple Creek Lodge (RCL) on the morning of October 20th, 2018. We were greeted by Dan and his staff, other hunting groups outside of our own were also being prepped for their hunting areas. We found all employed by RCL to be friendly, knowledgeable, hard working dedicated people with a passion of making each client feel at home. Our load out for the pack in was seem-less. The ride into camp was everything expected and more. The attention to detail and set up of our camp was exactly as explained in our contract and by Dan before we left the lodge. The description of the Flat Tops and hunt area was also very well explained to us along with excellent recommendations of the hunt areas to focus on. We hunted each day from the beginning of the season to the end and had a fantastic time in our quest for the elusive Wapiti. We left camp yesterday the 29th of October and the elk had won... this time. We saw elk but not the legal size and only one cow for a brief moment. But, Dan, his wife and crew checked on us every other day as promised and we had the best time learning a new area (for us) and will be back to do it again. I have personally harvested many cows and bulls (mixed) over the years and know that you win some and you lose some. That is hunting. No one has control of the weather or what hunting pressure will do to the elk. Unlike "Hollywood" or all of the over sponsored hunting shows that lead us to believe that elk hunting is a slam dunk, it is not done in an hour as seen on TV and does not always end in a 400 class bull at our feet. The five of us on this hunt are taking home a collection of fantastic memories, close encounters, sore legs, strong hearts and the burning desire that makes the next hunt something we will all be ready and waiting for! I Thank you Dan, Kat, Erick, Devon and your wife (in order of appearance) for exactly what we expected. A drop camp hunt where the measure of success is not measured by a pile of horns and meat, but the experiences and desire to take on the challenge of the hunt spent with the best of old friends along with making new ones.
