A friend and I hunted for elk with Paul Converse/Montana West Outfitters during the opening week of the 2021 Montana rifle season. Paul delivered on every aspect of this hunting experience, picking us up at the airport, delivering us to our drop camp, and spending two entire days (sunrise to sunset) prior to the season assisting us in scouting and getting us familiar with the area for what was supposed to be a semi-guided hunt. As it turned out Paul and another client wound up partnering with us for the entire week, leading to an amazing hunt where we saw more than 200 elk, wolves, bighorn sheep, countless mule deer and whitetails, and some of the most rugged and beautiful country I have ever experienced. The man is tireless. You will not out-hunt him. He is professional, extremely knowledgeable about the land and the animals that live there, and a pleasure to spend time with. While we did not find an animal that we wanted to harvest, the experience was invaluable and unforgettable. I would recommend Paul to anyone who values hunting hard, and experiencing wilderness with a professional guide who wants nothing more than to make your trip a success, which in my mind does not need to include harvesting an animal. Elk hunting is challenging and physically demanding in mountainous terrain. Be prepared for that, and an extremely rewarding experience with a guide who treats you like family.

In 2017 I was lucky enough to be one of Paul's first clients. When snow threatened our trip, Paul called and offered us the opportunity to cancel at no cost. We went anyway. Our drop camp hunt turned into a 1:1 guided hunt. Despite harsh conditions, Paul did everything possible to get us on elk. Paul's passion, knowledge of the area, determination and work ethic helped me get my bull on Day 3, and we were so very close to going 2 for 2. When I hunt western Montana again, I will be going with Paul.
