I can't think of a better day that I have had outside than the one we had with Eric last week. From the moment we met up with him early in the morning, his energy was incredible and was inquisitive about all things, fishing and life alike. While a few of us in the group had some prior fly fishing experience, I was a novice, and had a pretty dam good day (19). What impressed me most about Eric was how much prep he had done before he even picked us up. He had spent weeks finding new spots, corners of the river, and hidden pockets that proved to be some of the best fishing areas I have ever been to. When it came to the gear, rods and set up - he was dialed in on it all! We spent about 30 minutes or so when we got to the river (8AM or so) teaching me how to cast, where to lay my fly, and how to navigate the river as the indicator drifted by. I had never had someone so enthusiastic or detail oriented - teach me in that way before, so it was pretty special to get that much advice and practice from someone. I will close by saying this guy was born for this job. He absolutely loves what he does, and I felt that every single cast I would make, as he would critique me "you're better than that, Eli... lay it here" or the way he got so fired up when we got a bite! He was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with, constantly asking questions and telling us anecdotes about other places he's traveled or trips that he's guided. I couldn't speak more highly of Eric and what he stands for. He's the absolute man, and a fly fishing wizard! I will be back to go out with him again, that's for damn sure!

I spent last week in Sun Valley celebrating my 30th birthday with a few of my best friends, and our day with Eric was one of the highlights of the trip! We had a group with varying levels of fly-fishing experience, and Eric was great at meeting everyone where they were. He explains things in a way that’s easy to understand, always seemed to know exactly how much help someone wanted, and made everyone feel comfortable on the water. What stood out most was how attentive he was throughout the day. I’ve been dealing with a bum knee, and he was constantly checking in, helping with deeper crossings, and making sure everyone was safe and having a good time. Nothing over the top, just a lot of small things that showed he genuinely cared about the people he was guiding. The fishing itself was ridiculous! We ended up having a 51-fish day, and Eric was nonstop-netting fish, taking photos, helping with flies, and making sure everyone got opportunities at the best water. More than anything, Eric is just someone you want to spend a day on the river with. He’s knowledgeable, easygoing, funny, and clearly loves what he does. By the end of the day, it felt less like we had hired a guide and more like we’d spent the day fishing with a buddy who happened to know exactly where the fish were. I’ll be calling Eric anytime I’m back in the Sun Valley area. Couldn’t recommend him more highly!

Good fly fishing store with friendly stuff. I fly fish in the White Mountains NH, and this was my first fly fishing trip west. The timing of the trip was not very good, in the beginning of June there is still a lot of snow in the mountains and rivers running high and fishing is not good. I decided to hire a fishing guide through the store, and hope that I can catch something. And that's how one of the most exciting day of my life happened. My guide's name was Eric. We caught a lot of trout, at least four of them were 16 inch long, massive fish, good fighting and jumping out of the river. Besides that Eric patiently taught me all the technic which need to be used in different spots of the river. For a few hours I lived in the fly fisherman dream. Eric, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and experience with me, l'll be back. Also I highly recommend to book the guiding trip with Eric.

Outstanding. Our party of three got to do a day with Scott S. And Scott B for Spring Steelhead March 2026 and they were outstanding. Their knowledge and teaching helped us catch, land and improve our presentations in ways that helped us become better fishermen. We came away smiling and were better able to catch fish under difficult conditions and capitalize on opportunities when the fishing was hot. The LRO team was top notch. We visited Lost Creek Outfitters in October 2025, and we were helped by a woman who, unfortunately, we neglected to get the name of. But she was very personable and spent plenty of time learning what would work for us, and what our experience level is. She helped us find a small bit of supplies we needed, as well as a fair bit of Lost River merchandise we were looking for. She directed us to a great Creek, but alas, she didn't account for or poor fishing skill, and though I saw lots of trout, none would hit. Oh well,some catch fish, some don't. But the store was great, and the guides were also phenomenal.

My 2 sons and I booked a 3 day trip with Scott, and Gabe. Amy joined us on day 2. We fished the Big Lost River for Rainbows and the next day we fished the Salmon River for Steelhead. The training and knowledge that we received from the guides was outstanding. We were all beginners and by the end of our trip, my sons and I felt very confident in our casting which lead to us catching very large Steelhead and a bunch of Rainbow Trout. Was in Sun Valley a couple of weeks ago and had the amazing opportunity to be guided by Eric. Not only did we go to an absolutely stunning river, but we caught fish consistently the entire day. Additionally, Eric was kind enough to teach a couple of new techniques, including skating a crane fly for agressive cutthroat and grayling. I've fished with quite a few guides over the years, and Eric is at the top of the list. Would highly recommend!

On 8/1/23 I took my sons fly fishing and we had an exceptional guide Eric from Lost River. My sons 14 and 20 had never Gone flyfishing and I had no experience either, but Eric made it a memorable day as he got each of us 5-7 trout and patiently taught us the ins and outs so we could enjoy the experience. While passing through Ketchum this past Sunday (7-9-2023) I stopped in Lost River Outfitters to see if they sold fishing licenses. Thankfully they did, and their staff was very professional and supportive, especially Logan. Since moving to Idaho, I have found that the people here are genuinely nice, friendly, and courteous. Logan has all of those qualities and more; I plan to visit Lost River Outfitters again in the near future to spend a bit more time (and money) and to gain insight on fishing the waters in and around the area. The store's selection was amazing as was the decor. All in all, it was a good experience. Great service in an age when that seems to have diminished considerably over the past few years.

Scott and the crew at Lost River Outfitters were awesome!!! We were out here for a ski trip and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to fish in one of the most beautiful rivers (the wood). I hope I get back soon to fish when it’s a little warmer but despite the 20 degree temps, Scott took us to some amazing holes where we landed a bunch of rainbows and a brown. My friend hadn’t fly fished before, but Scott did a fantastic job teaching him, and he was catching fish on his first day out. Lunch was provided, smoked duck breast and an elk stew both dispatched and prepared by our guide. If you’re looking for an amazing experience, this is the shop! As someone who has spent countless days and hours walking my home waters to find the best holes and riffles I am grateful for your experience and knowledge. I had an incredible experience on the river with Eric Campbell. First time fly fishing for me, so I didn’t have high expectations on landing a trout. Eric was very patient and thorough in teaching me how to cast and handle the fly rod. I believe we had action at every spot that Eric showed me. Once I learned the basics of setting the hook, I started catching rainbow trout. Eric was very encouraging as he explained various techniques. I would highly recommend Lost River Outfitters and especially Eric as an outstanding guide. I’m coming back and bringing friends next year.
