Went on an elk hunt with some buddies in October. Weather was supposed to be perfect but it changed its mind and temps dropped about 30° and we got dumped on with snow so the game-plan changed. Walt was agile and put us into some different areas to try and get on some animals. We saw tons of fresh sign every day but no opportunities for a harvest. The food was great and hearty. Wr had a great time and made some great memories. Walt made sure we had everything we needed for a week of hunting. Make sure you put in the work and training before coming out as the terrain can get difficult. I’m a flatlander from Iowa and kept up easily by training a couple months prior to the trip. Hope to come back out for a spring bear hunt or cat hunt in the future! Thanks Walt and Lions Head Crew!!!

Review: Lions Head Outfitters / Guide: Carter May Hunt: Spring Black Bear (Idaho) Outcome: No harvest / One bear seen (while driving) I recently went on a spring bear hunt with Lions Head Outfitters. Overall, I had a good time on the mountain and learned a lot during my week in Idaho. Physically, the hunt was great, and the terrain was beautiful. However, I am leaving this review to provide a realistic expectation for future clients. When booking, the operation communicated a 110% opportunity rate for this hunt. Unfortunately, I did not see a single bear during my time in the field. While free-range hunting never guarantees success, the marketing did not match the field reality. The final days of the hunt felt compromised. My guide spent significant time on his phone during the last couple of days and was eager to pack up the camp early, which ultimately sacrificed the final day of my scheduled hunt. Additionally, we started the week well-stocked with food and water. Carter worked hard to make a good breakfast and dinner when we had supplies, but food and snacks became scarce later in the week. I appreciate the knowledge I gained, but for the financial investment, I expected a team that would hunt hard until the final whistle. When it became clear this hunt was going to be a grind, I felt like ideas ran out, effort dropped, and we threw in the towel early. I would recommend future clients closely vet advertised success metrics before booking.

We just got home from a half day fishing trip on the Kootenai River with Mike and it was awesome! He knew all the honey holes for the fish. I went with my 2 boys who are 13 and 11 and he was patient with them and helped them with their poles all day!! He had snacks, drinks and lunch for us on the trip. I would highly recommend Lion’s Head Outfitters and Mike for any of their services!! We will be back!!

Booked a spring bear hunt with Micheal. Maybe it was the weather but we never saw a shooter bear. Had one opportunity on a bear but ended up being a sow and cubs. Not so much worried about that. It’s hunting and nothing is guaranteed. I was a little more up set we ran out of food. We ran out of sandwich meat for lunches. We ran out of different snacks and chips. We also ran out of drinks. They did provide some protein bars and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Not a big fan of peanut butter sandwiches. The outfitter left for two days and eventually showed up with drinks and creamer for coffee. The last day we pack left over pizza I bought and some snacks. Spent all day on the mountain. Got back to camp at 10:30 at night. Camp was almost completely packed up. Including the kitchen area. We were not fed a meal after spending 14hrs in the field hunting. We packed our remaining stuff and left. Small towns like that everything closes at 8pm. We were lucky to find food at 1:30am at a Taco Bell close to the Washington line. I think lions head has the game. Micheal just needs to work on the outfitter part of the business. The guides worked their butts off. We averaged 19k steps a day and one day 37k steps.

Outstanding Experience with Lions Head Outfitters – Unforgettable Hunt! I recently had the privilege of going on a guided hunt with Lions Head Outfitters, and it was nothing short of incredible. From the moment I arrived, everything was well-organized, professional, and fun. Mike, our outfitter and guide, ran the entire operation with the energy and discipline you’d expect from a former Marine. He made me feel like I was back in the Marine Corps, sharing storys and jokes. He made every part of the experience smooth, exciting, and motivating. Then there was Carter—a 20 year old full of energy who brought enthusiasm, motivation, and some amazing stories to the table. Carter was not only a guide but a constant source of morale. His passion for the outdoors and for hunting was contagious, and he made the experience even more enjoyable with his sharp eye and great attitude. Dave rounded out the team with his cool, calm, and collected approach. His wealth of knowledge and steady demeanor were invaluable. He was always thinking ahead and sharing his deep understanding of the hunt and the land. We spent our days spotting and tracking bears. We saw elk, moose, and coyotes. As a first-time hunter, I learned so much from their expertise. Their ability to read the terrain, track wildlife, and teach on the go was top-notch. They were always patient, thorough, and eager to share their knowledge. The food was excellent, with plenty of hearty meals and snacks to keep us going. The camp had everything we needed and then some—comfortable, well-prepared, and clearly run with pride. I left this experience not only with new skills and memories but also with a deep appreciation for the wilderness and the people who live and breathe it. If you're thinking about booking with Lions Head Outfitters, do it. Whether you're new to hunting or a seasoned pro, you won’t regret it. Huge thanks to Mike, Carter, and Dave for a life-changing adventure.

It was a fantastic trip down the river, with stops at just the right spots that presented amazing opportunities to catch a good number of fish. My two best catches were a 17 inch rainbow trout and an 18 inch Cutthroat trout.

Mike was great! He took me and my son out and was so helpful in setting up everything and teaching my son how to properly clean his catch! Great guide for parents and kids. I highly recommend!!
