★★☆☆☆This would be a fabulous place for beginner riders. The trail through aspens and pines is beautiful, and the views are very good. We did the two-and-a-half-hour private ride with an amazing guide, Callum. But we phoned ahead of time explaining that we were experienced riders and that we wanted to avoid a slowpoke ride or nose-to-tail riding. They assured us that that wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived, however, we were told that all the horses were basically slowpoke trail horses, most of whom would do two or three long treks a day, and we'd never get more than a walk. This is partly understandable given the nature of the trail, but it's not what we wanted or expected or were led to believe. We were pretty explicit that we wanted to do real riding, so I'm not sure why they recommended this. In retrospect, we probably should have gone to American Safari in Fairplay, which I think is probably the only real riding ranch in the area.
★★★★★Did a pack trip with my wife. Travis was our guide. Man where do I start. The views the conversations the skills of our guide it was amazing. We saw views that will be ingrained in our brains for a life time. Was able to do some trout fishing as well. You are able to bring some of your own gear but they will also provide some if need be. I highly recommend doing a pack trip with half moon packing if you want an experience you won’t forget.

Beautiful views beautiful horses. We saw twin baby moose and a bigggggggg alpha moose so many whistle pigs. I got to learn several things and see so many incredible views!! 3 day pack trip I really don’t think I coulda got a better deal anywhere else. Wouldn’t have changed a thing!!!! Our family of six had the most incredible trail ride, and it was easily one of the highlights of our trip. Alyssa and G made were so welcoming, patient, and encouraging especially with our two kids, who absolutely fell in love with the western lifestyle. They haven’t stopped talking about horses since and are already begging us to come back! We rode through beautiful mountain meadows, towering pine forests, and a breathtaking aspen grove, all surrounded by spectacular mountain views which took me back to my childhood. Despite the nearby wildfire activity, there was absolutely no smoke during our ride. The skies were clear, the air was fresh, and the fire did not impact our experience in any way. If you’re considering a trail ride, don’t hesitate to book Halfmoon Packing & Outfitting. Their hospitality, knowledgeable guides, well-cared-for horses, and stunning trails created memories our family will treasure forever. We can’t wait to come back!

Our horses were so sweet and well behaved. We felt super safe on them. The horses are very well cared for, happy, and they seem to love the beautiful land they live on. ★★★★★Really enjoyed our 2.5 hour ride with Alyssa. She was so personable and skilled. We booked last minute, day-of and they were able to get us in for an afternoon ride. She was training another guide (Lindsey I believe) and she was also super kind and knowledgeable. This was honestly the highlight of our Colorado trip. We stayed in Breckenridge and the drive over was beautiful and super manageable. Glad we chose this outfitter over the bigger brands that were closer to us in Breck- the price was more competitive and the experience was top notch! Thank y'all! 😁

Our guide was informative, and the ride was very peaceful and scenic. You're really out in the middle of nowhere, so you can't hear any traffic and in the 1-hour ride, you basically climb up the side of a mountain and back down. It was a great time and would highly recommend.

★★★★★Book with Halfmoon, you won't regret it! We booked a three day consecutive adventure with our ten year old daughter and it far surpassed any high expectations we held for the trip. Our guides, Jerry and Lane, were outstanding and treated our daughter with as much respect as they treated us. She does not like to be treated like a little kid and it made the trip incredibly special. It was most certainly, the trip of a lifetime!
★★★☆☆I booked a 2.5hr ride for 2, with the option to pay upon our arrival on 8/2. They needed a card to hold our reservation, but their website did not mention that a holding fee would be assessed immediately, let alone in the full amount of $250. I called HMP to ask about the charge and the gentleman who spoke with me admitted being aware that holds were assessed for the full payment amount, noting it was a decision made by the credit card company. I tried to point out that this language wasn’t on their website and that, as a customer, it would have been helpful to know at the time. Unfortunately I was cut off several times by him continuing to insist that this was a policy of the credit card company. He just kept repeating that it was their policy and unfortunately didn’t give me the chance to say that I wasn’t disagreeing with the policy, just that I would have liked to know about it at the time I chose that booking option. I will venture to guess this policy has ruffled some feathers before and he may have assumed I was trying to get a refund, so he quickly offered to cancel our booking and refund our purchase. Although this wasn’t my intention at the beginning of the call, my husband and I ultimately chose to cancel because of this staff member’s approach to the situation and his unwillingness to listen.

★★★★★We had a 7.5 mile trip booked with a total of 9 people and had an amazing time! The crew at halfmoon was amazing. Many in our group had not rode horses more than 15 minutes and had been many years and the crew were patient with the kids and adults alike. Views are amazing from the Aspen groves and old logging sheds to the views from the top of the mountain looking towards Mount massive. We were all in pain afterwards from the 3 hours on horse, but would do this again and recommend it if you love adventure and don't mind a little pain.
