Hands down a 6 star place. Went on a hog hunting with my two boys and some of my sons friends. Grounds and staff are top notch. If your looking to make memories this is the place to go. Thank you Hunter, Leroy, and all the staff at GSO. We will be back. John

We had a good time here hog hunting (2day). This is a tough hunt for sure but 100% fair chase. Out of our group of 4 one killed, but all of us had an opportunity at a hog. One of us missed and the hog I had an opportunity at didnt come under the feeder and I didn’t feel comfortable shooting because it was too dark to tell its head from its butt. The staff here is friendly and wants to make your hunt great. The cooking ladies will make sure you're foundered on good country vittles at every meal. If we decide to go on a guided hunt like this again we will for sure consider GSO

Kyle was great put me on hogs saw plenty of hogs just outside of bow range... Food was great the ladies in the back really can cook... I think the guides should have a little more liberty to be guides but other than that it was a good time... Update on my review to three stars. After being to shady grove outfitters, I now realize the great southern is about a 3 star outfit compared to shady grove which is hands down a five star outfit.

My wife and I had a great time with the team at Great Southern Outdoors. We’ve been to some other outfitters, and I can say the property, land and layout are large enough to accommodate many people comfortably, but also Hunter, his guides, and the cooks do an amazing job of bringing everyone together and making a family environment. Rooms are large compared to other outfitters, beds comfortable, and you have a good mix of your own space, but also all the hunting land and access to deer you could need. Everyone made my wife comparable too, and can’t say enough good things about Hunter, the guide team and also the ladies in the kitchen. Everything was top notch and plenty of deer movement. Meals far exceeded our expectations compared to other trips. My wife was able to get her first deer here, and the team went above and beyond, with no shortage of fun either. If you’re looking for the perfect mix of comfort, great staff, good food, but also still looking for a well laid out property with great setups for deer habitat and hunting, this is your place. We booked again for next year before leaving, and will for years to come. Thank you, Hunter.

Second time to GSO for full rut deer hunt. Words cannot describe this place!! Amazing property and exceptional staff Hunter and the team know their area and definitely plenty of deer to hunt . Leroy was my guide this time around and man does he know the lay of the land, we came up with a game plan on how to really get close to these deer winds we’re not in our favor but got it done on the last day last 30 minutes. Already booked for 2026 and can’t wait ! 2026 update. Came back for our third hunt at GSO always an amazing time with the crew here. Saw a good amount of deer considering the full moon and hot weather we had for January! But that’s why it’s hunting. Want to thank the whole team for an amazing experience once again!

Couldn’t be more proud of my sons. After two years of hunting hard and staying patient, my youngest son put it all together this season and harvested a beautiful, mature buck at Great Southern Outdoors Wildlife Plantation. Even more special, this was his first time sitting by himself in Alabama, and he handled it with confidence well beyond his years. What makes this even more meaningful is that both of my sons have now been able to experience success here. Two seasons, two great bucks, and memories that will last a lifetime. We’re incredibly thankful for the hospitality, the people, and the traditions at GSO. A big thank you to Chuck, who is as good a guide and mentor as you could ask for—someone you trust your kids with, and someone they’re better for being around. Also thankful for Leroy, always first-class and welcoming, and to Hunter Pritchett for continuing the strong tradition his father built. Proud dad moment for sure. Thankful for great hunts, great people, and time in the woods with my boys.

I’ve been coming to GSO for 4 years now and have a blast every single time. My son killed his very first deer here with Hunter, a beautiful tall 8 point. I’ve hunted here when the weather conditions are not so great and when they are perfect. Mother Nature makes her own rules but I can assure you Hunter and his guides will go above and beyond for an opportunity for you! I’ve seen a ton of deer at this place and lots of hogs. We were there for opening weekend and had a ball. My son killed his second deer and in his words a “big ole nanny doe”! My farther and buddy came on this trip, they both harvested deer, including a very nice 9 point! I can’t thank these guys enough for treating us like family. The food is absolutely incredible. Lodging is cozy! You won’t find another place that will treat you like grandma and grandpa did other than right here. True southern hospitality! I included a photo of him with his doe and also a photo of him picking up his mount from the previous year.

I want to start off with, This was my very first trip to Great Southern and I hope never my last! A buddy of mine recommended this place and just so happened Hunter Pritchett was able to squeeze me in with his party. Despite the very hot weather, which is not normal this time of the year for them, Hunter and his team of guides still went above and beyond for us. I was able to harvest a doe and a very nice 9point. I saw over 20 deer in a single sit one afternoon. I also saw turkeys, hogs, raccoons and almost any animal you can think of Alabama offers. The staff is absolutely incredible. The grounds are very maintained. Beautiful place! The meals were absolutely fantastic, southern cooking everyday! I’ve traveled to some other outfitters before but never felt at home as I did right there in union springs Alabama! They treat you like family. Our rooms were clean, and showers were HOT! I’m Looking forward to next year!

This is the greatest hunting lodge in the United States of America. Once I started coming here, I have never stopped. If you think you are shooting fish in a barrel, go somewhere else. This is a hard hunt; this hunt is for real hunters. You want a challenge? You want good food? You want great people? You want a chance at so many different animals? Then this is the place for you. Hunter, the owner, truly cares about his guests and does everything in his power to ensure a great trip. Hunter's guide, Leroy, is absolutely amazing and goes miles above what he needs to for each person he guides. You may not tag out on every trip, but you will absolutely be into animals. Do yourself a favor and start booking your hunts with GSO and don't look back!

I contacted Hunter late Friday afternoon as a last minute plan, knowing the chances would be slim to none, he didn’t hesitate and said “ come on” so same day I picked up my friend that had just flown in for a girls weekend and drove straight there. Due to us arriving after 1am, the directions for arrival were texted and made our arrival very easy. My room was comfy had a personal bathroom and was very clean. Hunter and the entire staff were very friendly and made our weekend a wonderful time. The food was great! The shooting houses were great! Leroy was very kind and was so easy to chat with. Before leaving, we discussed booking another “Girls hunting trip” and can’t wait to return. I’ve been to many hunting lodges that are well known and this one goes neck to neck with my experience !

Was there 2 weeks ago with 2 other family members for our first hog hunt. We were the only group in camp. We didn't see any hogs and saw very little sign of hogs. After pickup on our second night as we were heading back to the lodge the guide told us that we weren't hunting his usual areas, due to them being inaccessible due to the rain. I feel like if we were in another guides area, we should have had the guide for that area. After hearing that info, we decided to go ahead and leave and not even worry about the last morning hunt.

My husband and I went for a hog hunt last weekend. The lodge, food and staff were all great! However, if you’re expecting a big exciting hog hunt, you will be disappointed. Out of about 20 people, only 2 people got hogs and we didn’t even see hogs.

This is a beautiful property with helpful friendly employees. The food is exceptional. The accommodations are very nice. The exception is Hillbug lodge. While beautiful inside, it needs maintenance. The bathroom needs to be remodeled (old fixtures, low water pressure, toilet won't flush unless you hold the handle down), the doors need to be trimmed so that they close, the light fixtures need functional bulbs and the steps up to the deck need to be replaced. The rooms in the newer building are like motel rooms with private bathrooms. Request the newer building. The hog hunting is tough. They are hunted hard every other weekend. They're smart and completely nocturnal. Plan on hunting all night (12-5am) if you want to maximize your chances.

The lodge we had hunted for over 20 years was sold and we were looking for new lodge. 2 years of disappointment and them we found Great Southern Outdoors. Hunter and the guides were professional, attentive and very knowledgeable. The accommodations were very nice, and the food was fantastic! We saw plenty of deer and hogs. Although none of us saw the big shooter this trip, we already rebooked for next year! Thank you, Hunter, Chuck, Leroy and Kyler, for a great hunt and kudos to the kitchen staff for keeping us well fed! See y'all again soon!

Great people and great food. Was relaxing and laid back which was good for me being my first hog hunt. I am an avid hunter, I just live in the north and never hunted hogs. I never actually saw hogs, plenty of hog sign, other hunters did harvest the second day which was great considering how hot it was outside. I heard hogs in the distance both nights. I would recommend having a thermal scope and at least a night vision monocular. The feeder lights are decent but hogs are smart, and it appears this is no exception. That's why it's called hunting and not killing. The guides Leroy and Kyler put in the work trying to make sure everyone was taken care of, and scouting trying to get everyone on hogs. These guides put in sleepless hours to try and get the job done for their customers. Even though I am sure I was annoying at times with questions, they were always intuitive and gave straightforward answers which I commend. Now, the reason for the 3 stars. Somehow, I got the short straw and was staying in the older lodge. I wasn't impressed, it needs some renovations. I wasn't expecting the Hilton by any means; it is a hunt and not a beach vacation. But, the house was very musky smelling almost like a dog had peed in it one too many times. The bathroom needs some renovations specifically a new toilet seat, and a new bathtub surround for the shower at least. Some new beds and mattresses are in dire need. After being up all night most hunters just sleep the day away. But, that's pretty hard to do in an uncomfortable old bed that squeaks and looks like it just came out of the 1950s crazy hospital. Needs some light bulbs in the bar lights in the ceiling in the room I stayed in, and just a good all-over dusting job. The deck on the back of the house I stayed in needs to be removed before it gets someone hurt, it's old and rotting, and it is on its way out. I will say, the A/C works like a champ. You could keep meat in there it was so cold, I loved that lol!!! Overall, after thinking about it for a couple of days I have mixed emotions about whether I would go back. I liked it overall, minus the sleeping conditions. I asked others about the other lodge, and they all said it was very nice and updated with good beds.

Had a great experience at great southern outdoors. We called a couple days before our hunt and asked about the bed bugs after reading prior reviews. We were informed they had pest control out twice to check for them and could not find anything, but went ahead and treated the rooms to be safe. Believe me when I say there are no bugs we checked thoroughly. Kyler was our guide and he did a phenomenal job. Two out of the 3 people in our group went home with a hog. The food is fantastic. They feed you real home cooked fresh meals, not fast food frozen food or junk. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. But overall it was an amazing weekend and we are looking forward to next year, we will be back!

This place is amazing! My wife and I have been coming for years. We deer hunt here during the rut and the quality of deer excellent. We also do numerous Hog hunts during the year and have had great success. We have stayed in every room on the property and it is always clean and smells great. The food is outstanding and we have never had a bad meal there. The guides take pride in putting you on game. We realize that this is a paid hunt and you are not going to kill something every time, but it’s not all about killing something. You need to take each visit as an opportunity to meet new friends and experience GODs glory! Thank you to Hunter, Ginger, Leroy, and all the staff for making each stay like we are coming home. You make us feel like family each time we visit! I highly recommend this lodge of your looking for the Ultimate hunting experience!!!!

Bed bugs! Their solution is putting clothes in a black garbage bag and moving rooms. We brought them proof bed bugs in a plastic cellophane, as well as video of them running on the wall at the head of the bed. Now, on the reviews, they are denying the bugs and trying to bash us for leaving a bad review. Treating the issue as if we're making it up, when we brought them proof!!!!!! Still have photos and videos to prove our claims! On another note, best of luck with your future outdoor adventures!

My husband just took a trip here over the weekend and had to throw away all his good hunting clothes and more because of bedbugs! Reply: Sir, there were bedbugs crawling on his bag so please don’t try to justify this. The guys took pictures and videos of them crawling up the wall and on them. So I would say it’s infested. You might want to call a better pest control place if they claimed that is was “all good.” Best of luck with y’all’s future outdoor adventures!

A group of 3 of us came down from Kentucky for my Batchelor party. We had high hopes going in that we were going to have a good time and be able to see some hogs and have a good chance of filling some coolers. During orientation the first day Hunter said that they haven’t had any activity during the day so we should try to hunt as much at night as we could and if we drove that would give the best opportunity. After the first hunt we sat for 7 hours 6 till 1 in the morning and back out from 4-7 in two different stands with no sign of a pig just a couple small deer. With one feeder that never went off, that was told to the guide and he moved those guys to a stand that I had sat in. Was ready to sleep when we got back but was unable to because I was woken up to bed bugs biting me. When Hunter was informed of this he gave us trash bags for our things and told to put them on the porch and we could stay in the big cabin that night. Got a sorry and that happens. I tried to be nice and not let this bother me but after the last night of hunting and nothing even coming to the feeder after another 9+ hour hunt I was let down. We were not the only ones to not see anything especially on the first night. The food was alright, biscuits were the very good. Our guide Leroy was nice. As much as I wanted this to be a good time I don’t think I’d come back. I understand that it’s hunting and sometimes you don’t get to harvest anything. But we didn’t even see a single pig. All in all we paid $600 a pice to get bed bugs and sit in woods in the dark. Edit. Our group as basic questions at orientation, was never approached by hunter or the other guide throughout the stay only our guide Leroy. Leroy was a great guy and was glad to have Al had the conversation that we did. As for the member of our group that was “afraid of the dark”. That’s a joke the man is a veteran and saw combat that hadn’t shot or even held a gun since and hand killed anything for that part since. So wanted to have someone near him just in case of a ptsd episode. So to say he was scared is a joke and disrespectful. He has done more and sacrificed more than you will ever do. All you had to do is check with your clients before they left after the whole bed bug infestation that was in our room not just one. Now I have to replace things so I don’t bring them into my home thanks for that.
