Had a wonderful time with the folks from Flat Top Hunting. Very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to do what it takes to make the experience perfect. I wear a prosthetic leg and the way they are set up is not a problem for me to get around. I have hunted a lot of places from Utah and South Dakota to Ky and Tn. This is one of the best I have been on. Definitely recommend it.

Derrick and Terry have a hidden gem in the mountains. We hunted over 2 fantastic dogs!! My Friend Kevin and I had the time of our lives! Kevin has a prosthetic leg. They accommodated him by allowing him to bring his side by side. We had a meal of flat top soup and cornbread. I highly recommend this place if you enjoy bird hunting and watching great dogs work! beautiful Scenery is also a bonus.

Outstanding Day! Many folks believe to have a real upland bird hunting experience you have to travel to the Dakotas or out west. Not true, right here in our own backyard we have great pheasant hunting run by a local family with over 200 years of owning and working the land and they still run an operational farm on to this day. Derrick and Terry are able to furnish an authentic upland experience with a true southern feel. - The hunting is situated well off any road so that you hear the native sounds that were there 100 years ago, not the noise of trucks traveling at high speed down an interstate. This alone was worth the drive. - We were greeted with a smile and a handshake from a well dressed, articulate, knowledgeable southerner who showed up to the occasion with a great attitude and was looking forward to getting to know new folks as well as to show guests to their home a good day of hunting. - The men that took us hunting own the land, the business, and the dogs. They were invested in our hunt, and it showed. - On any upland hunt you can easily cover miles without stopping. Here we had 20 birds to harvest, and we did cover miles but at a slower pace by breaking the shooting into sets of 7-7-6 birds with a short rest between each set. This was nice not only for the hunters but also the dogs as well (more about the dogs in a minute). - Even when traveling to the Dakotas for a hunt the birds are not native birds. Having said that these birds flew very fast. I’m not sure if they feed them better bird feed or if it’s just the good Tennessee air that made the birds fly so well, but either way we didn’t bag all 20 birds. We had 22 flushes and 18 birds in the bag. The fact that we continued to hunt the birds after the initial flush and our missed shot is part of the fact that these men were invested in our hunt. - The dogs! To experience a bad set of dogs is frustrating at best, and painful at worst. But to watch a good set of working dogs is magic! Willie and Nellie did not disappoint. They were both of good nature with people, and eager to do their job. They had the discipline of a well trained team. - At the conclusion of the hunt normally there’s nothing to do but dress the birds and throw them in bags for transportation. While that was done for us we were invited to enjoy some of the best homemade stew and cornbread ever (sorry mom). Seriously a real southern meal cooked by Terry’s wife and served with the hospitality our state is known for. It might not sound like much to some but to 2 hungry fellas that had walked miles trying to keep up with some energetic hunting dogs and looking for birds it was honestly as good as it gets. To summarize, this is a great hunt, in a beautiful location, with outstanding people, fantastic food, with fast flying birds, and well trained dogs. It’s gonna be pretty hard to beat that experience no matter where you go.

My family had an absolutely incredible pheasant hunting experience! From start to finish, everything was well organized and professionally run. The guide was knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about what they do. He made sure everyone in our group felt comfortable and safe, whether experienced or new to hunting. The property was beautiful and well maintained, with strong bird numbers and exciting flushes throughout the day. The dogs were impressive to watch, well trained, hardworking, and a huge part of what made the hunt so enjoyable. We will be back!

Have had my dogs out twice. Great birds and beautiful scenery. Super nice folks! Will be back again. Being away from any major roads while working young dogs makes it a bit more comfortable.

Derek and the family were welcoming and ensured everyone was had a great experience. It was enjoyable watching the dogs work. We all had opportunities and no one went home empty handed. The Flat Top Mtn soup was great after the hunt to warm up and fill the belly. Our party will be back again.

Flat Top Mountain Hunting Preserve was an excellent experience. Derrick and the family were wonderful hosts and had a smooth operation. They prioritized giving us a fun and enjoyable experience, even with the cold and the snow. They had heaters available and hot soup/cornbread, after the hunt. The birds were a good size and well cleaned making it easy for us to debone and freeze at home. We look forward to returning year after year.
