The horses and mules are great rides they get you comfortable riding horses even if you've never been on one before. Good for all ages young and old. Some of the most beautiful country there is
★★★★★Troy and Loretta run and excellent guide and drop camp service. Their drop camps are clean and have what you need to be comfortable for more than a week. Fawn Gulch has a long history (4 generation) setting up camps in the highlands near Pagosa Springs. The Fawn Gulch group was very responsive when radioing back to pick up game for processing and delivery any needed items to camp that you have forgotten. The experience and knowledge of the FG group put us onto to elk and Mule deer nearly every day. Beautiful high country with not many hunters near our camp. I would recommend Fawn Gulch to anyone and the horse ride in and out of camp was great.
★☆☆☆☆I would not use if someone paid me to. A friend and I was hunting the west fork creek area. We had taken the time to walk in and scout the area out. Now I know this is puiblic land and that is one of the joys you get to meet and talk to other people from around the country so this was not the problem. The problem is that my friend and I had been set up on a main trail all day, when the Fawn gulch guide brought two other hunters into the area. Rather than (once discovering we were already there) taking his two hunters to another location, huge mountain. They proceeded to sit down and start talking and laughing and smoking. This I found to be rather rude and disingenuous to a fellow hunter. Those are everyone's public lands and are to be shared. We need to show each other respect. To be fare I was so mad when I left I did pee on a few trees. Probably not my proudest moment.
★★★★★Great Elk hunting opportunity. The Drop Camps make the logistical side of packing in a lot easier. Excellent area for elk, and the family run business really tries to give the best experience possible.
