Booked a 3 day turkey hunt with these guys, and on the very first morning the guide was late. We spooked all the birds from the roost on the way in because it’s after sunrise. We told the guide we wanted to hunt all day, but he had other plans and decided to drop us off at our room instead for lunch. After 45 minutes, we text and said we were ready to hunt again, but he didn’t respond for 2 hours. The next morning we hunted some land we knocked on doors to get permission for. We could only hunt the field, not the timber where the birds were. A neighbor saw us out there and dove a side by side through our decoys checking on the land. Ruined our hunt once again. Guide fell asleep on that afternoon hunt because he was smoking marijuana the entire time with us in the vehicle. The owner, Scottie Layman, told us it wasn’t his fault on either of our unfortunate hunts. Even argued with us. Eventually, he told us we could come back for free, only to not honor that and ignore our messages. Steer clear!!! Guide sleeping in the attached pic.

Had an amazing turkey hunting adventure in the beautiful green rolling hills of middle Tennessee with Elk River Outfitters. Despite severe weather conditions that completely changed the patterns of the turkeys, Scottie and his wonderful guides were still able to get everyone on birds! Hunted with Scottie and two of his guides and they all worked tirelessly to make every hunt successful. Very knowledgeable group. Would highly recommend them to anyone. Scottie was great. He’s probably forgotten more about turkey hunting than most people will ever learn. He even spent time patiently coaching me on my pitiful diaphragm calling skills. My first guide was a young stud named Bradley. This guy must have been born with a turkey call in his mouth. He sounded just like a real hen. The gobblers couldn’t resist him. I’d have probably shot him myself if he had a beard! The second guide was Miles. He was dead set on getting me a bird. His woodcraft skills enabled us to sneak up so close to the birds on the roost that it seemed like they were right beside us! And his knowledge of the land we hunted helped us maneuver and get in front of them to get in position for the kill. The farms we hunted were extensive and I never hunted in the same place twice. The turkey population density on these farms was incredible. The lodge where we stayed provided excellent accommodations and the family who owns it was very welcoming to everyone. Although meals are not served there, the scenic historic town of Fayetteville is just a few miles down the road with plenty of dining options. If you want to have an unforgettable experience hunting Eastern turkeys in Tennessee, Elk River Outfitters is the place to go!!!
