I had a great experience with Bill, Carla, Gary, Jeremiah, Ben, Elijah, and Kyle. This was my 1st back country archery hunt and I could not have been happier. This was one of those bucket list trips that I always wanted to do but never made the time. The accommodations were great and the food was excellent (Thanks Ben!). Jeremiah was a great guide and we defiantly hiked all over the hills. we did not connect with a bull but I was successful with a very nice cow elk on the last day! Thanks again for the great experience! All the best!

I just completed my first archery elk hunting experience with Elk Basin Outfitters and had a great time. Bill and Carla are big-hearted, salt-of-the-earth, very welcoming people who will go out of their way to help make your trip a success. They care about your comfort, safety, and strive to meet expectations. Gary and the guides run a top-notch camp and are all very knowledgable of the hunting unit and work together to make sure hunters/clients are taken care of. The horses/mules are well cared for and are a blessing to have, with all that goes in to making a backcountry archery elk hunt a success. Our camp cook, Ben, was fantastic .... an accomplished and knowledgable guide himself, he was a great conversationalist and the food in camp was phenomenal. Overall it was a great experience and I hope to return soon to fill an archery elk tag. Thank you all for your hospitality!

My husband and I have been on numerous hunting trips with Elk Basin Outfitters over the past 18 years. Elk Basin Outfitters is a family owned and operated business by a phenomenal couple who strive to make each hunting experience a successful one for their hunters. In 2022, I was able to shoot a Buck that scored 198 and then last year, my husband was on a guided hunt in the trophy unit and shot a bull elk scoring 365. Bill and Carla offer a wide variety of hunting experiences to meet all needs and their guides are extremely knowledgeable of the area to ensure a successful hunting experience. Took my 21 year grandson on his first hunt (archery) ever with Elk Basin Outfitters. (I was along as a spectator.) Being our first experience with an outfitter, we had no idea what to expect. Bill and Carla made us feel like family. The horses/mules were easy to ride. Camp at 9,300' elevation had roomy tents with wood stoves. The food was good and the crew very accommodating. We enjoyed the experience so much that we have already booked our September 2024 hunt. This trip I will be hunting as well.

Have hunted with Bill of Elk Basin Outfitters for the past two seasons. The Trophy hunt was amazing. Last year we rode in horseback to archery camp. Great setup. Big wall tents with wood burning stoves. Hot breakfasts and dinners. Beautiful views all around. This is the real deal back country hunt. If you’re tough enough to handle elk hunting. I hunted with Bill and Carla Allen in Sept. 2022 for archery mule deer in Colorado GMU 53. I chose their operation based on my research into finding big mule deer in Colorado and who could get me up in the high country with horses. The camp was well organized and the horses were very good trail horses that suit inexperienced riders. I had opportunities at a very nice buck but didn't quite seal the deal. I will be going back when I can draw the deer tag again. Bill is a salt of the earth type of man that may not have a polished personality and seem a bit gruff but he is sincere and has a big heart. Definitely not a high end outfitter. Lodge accommodations are minimal. Breakfast and supper are good home-cooked meals, but lunch is simple lunch meat sandwiches, which is fine in the field but I expected more at the lodge when paying thousands to hunt. Camp accommodations were as to be expected when being in the wilderness. Food preparation at camp was good however, cleanliness was not. A lot of the food was left out uncovered, and flies were everywhere including in the food. The lunch rations were also quickly depleted, and no additional rations were brought in until we packed out. Overall the guides were a good group of guys, but there was some disorder around camp that should be addressed for a better client experience.
