Cayuse Outfitting, LLC offers fully guided backcountry hunts for elk, moose, black bear, and mountain lion in Idaho's Unit 10 of the Clearwater National Forest. With over 35 years of experience, Outfitter Dan Everson leads hunters on horseback into wilderness camps, providing comfortable accommodations, home-cooked meals, and a commitment to a rewarding hunting experience.

Black Bear Hunts

5 daysBear hunts are currently booking. We may have some cancellations available, so if you can travel last minute we are happy to add you to a list.

Bear hunts are conducted through a combination of spot and stalk and the use of baits. Starting around the first week in June, we begin our spring bear hunts. As the snow is leaving the mountains, the bruins begin to emerge looking for anything to eat to regain what they lost during the winter. We will hunt along proven travel areas and have stands set for both archery and rifle hunters. Our goal is to get you in an opportunity at a bear within a range you are comfortable shooting at. Hunts are usually a 5-day hunt starting Sunday night through Thursday night with departures Friday mornings.

Elk Hunts

1–4 huntersElk hunts are currently booking out 2 years in advance for rifle, and a year in advance for archery.

All our Idaho elk hunting trips are fully guided with one or two hunters to a guide with no more than four hunters to a camp. All our camps are pack in camps taking a two-to-four-hour horseback ride to access. Our camps are provided with the best accommodations as possible while keeping with a wilderness setting. A full-time cook will be provided to prepare meals on group hunts. Archery and rifle hunts are conducted with combination of riding, glassing, bugling, and hiking.

Moose Hunts

📅 NovMoose hunts are a first come first served booking event. We have limited tags so if you are lucky winner, call early and reserve your spot. Controlled moose hunt applicants are submitted in April.

Shiras moose hunting is available in Idaho for successful non-resident permit applicants. Trophy bulls are abundant and many of our hunters have harvested Boone and Crockett bulls in our permitted area. We will assist you in applying for one of the three non-resident permits available in our licensed area.

Mountain Lion

Trophy toms are regularly harvested on our lion hunts. As lion season runs during the winter months, snow machines, ATV’s, hunting afoot or with snowshoes will be the methods used to pursue lions. Access to our comfortable base camp may require a long snow machine ride. Excellent physical conditioning is encouraged to ensure success.
