Just got back from a back country bear hunt with these folks. Duke and Aaron did everything possible but the bear just wouldn't cooperate. Savannah kept everyone very well fed! I highly recommend going with these folks! Great people, fantastic food, very comfortable camp. Nothing but respect and gratitude for them.

Guys were nice, views are 10/10. Sat 8 days morning and night in same stand. Nothing but a squirrel. As far as bears go, these are small; averaging 100lbs in spring.

We had an outstanding experience with this group. Despite challenging weather conditions that made the hunt difficult for everyone involved including the guides and dogs. The team remained professional, dedicated, and committed to providing us with the best possible opportunity. While we were not able to tag out, their effort and willingness to go above and beyond did not go unnoticed. We truly appreciate the level of hospitality and hard work they put into making this a memorable trip. I would highly recommend their services to anyone looking for a top-tier hunting experience you won’t be disappointed. Will definitely be back for more!

Hands down best outfitter I’ve ever hunted with! From time we arrived to time we left the Cameron crew went above and beyond to make everything enjoyable. Our guides brute and Aaron very knowledgeable and went as far as to give us the boots off their feet to wade the creek. Another trip was booked before this one ended. Still amazed at how well this outfit is ran, if could give 6/5 stars I would! Don’t hesitate to book with them!

“You Gotta Want It” – Elk Combo Hunt at Hell’s Half Base Camp My September 2025 hunt with Cameron Outfitters was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we hit base camp, I knew this was going to be the kind of experience you don’t forget. The country was rugged and beautiful, the effort was real, and the reward made every climb worth it. My guide, Oscar, went above and beyond — relentless, focused, and determined to create opportunity every single day. His drive and commitment are unmatched. The Cameron family and entire crew treated us like one of their own. Every hand in camp was top-notch — professional, helpful, and passionate about what they do. On Day 4, I tagged a 5x5 bull elk; my buddy followed up with a 6x6 on Day 5. On the last day, last hour, and at sunset, my buddy dropped a mule deer. If Oscar say go, you go. Gary and Sheri were incredibly excellent! We know where Oscar gets it from. This hunt is the perfect mix of challenge, beauty, and accomplishment. If you want a true dream hunt chance in hell, and a team that gives everything they’ve got — Cameron Outfitters delivers. I’d go back tomorrow without hesitation.

Absolutely the best outfit I have hunted with. Everything including the landscape is awesome. The hardest working guides i have had the pleasure of being around. If you are capable of following them they will do everything to put you on animals. Excellent food also.

2025 Spring Bear - In my last reviews, I said I would be back and we were. This time for Spring Bear with my son. Again, the Cameron family did not disappoint. The trip was successful due to their extreme dedication and desire to make each hunt as special as possible for each client. These guys work incredibly hard and make it a perfect trip. Even if you don’t kill, you won’t go home disappointed. My son got his bear on day 4 and I got mine on the last evening. Don’t hesitate to book with Cameron. I already have trip 3 on the books. 2023 Lion Hunt — The Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness is wild and spectacular and Cameron Outfitter’s goes above and beyond for the client. I was not disappointed. The hunting is extremely challenging so be in great shape. You will want to get off the road and see the views while improving your chances. The entire Cameron family was friendly, hard working, extremely accommodating, and did everything possible to make my lion hunt as fun, exciting, and successful as possible. This is a tough area and true hunting. No guarantees on success, but the trip will be awesome regardless. Don’t hesitate to give these guys a shot. I know I will be heading back for sure.

We just got back from a spring bear hunt with Cameron. Hunted the Kit Carson camp shot a couple of bears. I have been on several outfitted hunts for multiple game species but never experience a better atmosphere or food. The guides worked extremely hard and were always willing to go the extra yard to help hunters with whatever they need. Definitely will be going back to hunt with Gary and Team. GREAT OUTFIT!!!!!!

Incredible experience all around. My 12-year old son and I hunted out of the back country on a 7-day hunt. Brute and Matthew were willing to do just about anything you asked/needed. Great food, great company, great hunt. Will be back again someday.

Let me just start off by saying our guides worked their buts off while hunting and in camp, the food was awesome and the effort they put in trying to get us on a bear was nothing less than unbelievable, our group only managed one bear but to no fault of our guides, the bears hit the baits every night but unfortunately at night, during the day it got unseasonably warm and the bears laid up during the day and only ventured out to feed late at night, the ride into the back country on the mules was nothing less than spectacular this really is Gods country, book a hunt with the Cameron's and you wont be disappointed especially if you are fortunate to have Brute, Mathew and Sam the red bone hound along on your hunt.

My son and I Bear hunted with Cameron Outfitters in the Spring of 22 and elk hunted this past September and had the best time ever. This family does it right. We were treated like family each time. We hunted out of base camps both times (Paradise on the bear hunt, & Hell's Half on the elk hunt) and couldn't ask for better accommodations. Expect to maybe gain a couple of pounds because you're going to eat really good. We look forward to another adventure in the future. If you come from the flat lands like me I urge you to get yourself in shape, especially your equine abilities because you're going to put some miles in every day.

Let just say in response to Shawns review! He was friends with the owner and got special treatment and got to hunt where they been scouting! so yeh he did have a good hunt! As I think about it more and more it pisses me off to think there’s a guy in town booking these hunts that doesn’t even know what going on! He’s just the money guy. So yeh if your a friend of the family go hunt this place. Customer service was horrible guide was lazy. Food was good that’s about the only thing. Sad to say it’s about quantity not quality hunts.

First let me say that elk hunting is challenging and this year was my third attempt. The first two were self-guided in Colorado and resulted in tag soup. I decided to make a change and went with Cameron Outfitters this year on a recommendation from a friend. It was a great hunt and Oscar and Brute made sure we had the opportunity to be successful. I finally got my first elk on the last morning of the week, and Oscar was always optimistic he would put me in that position. I also shot a nice 4x4 mule deer as a bonus. I have already reserved an early season spot for next year which is the best review I could make. Not everyone successfully harvested an elk, and that is just hunting and why we don't call it "killing". There were days when I questioned if I was in for another year of tag soup. You will have to work for the shot and that is the way is should be, unless you want to hunt on a game ranch. (not much to be proud of). One hunter shot a spike mule deer on day one, would not take directions from his guide, and left on day 4 because he had not seen anything. He then left a bad review blaming the guides and company. He was a nice guy but obviously does not understand the patience it takes to hunt elk. Most states have a ~20% success rate, which means you fail 80% of the time. Looking forward to a big 6X6 bull next year in Hell's Half!

Great place to hunt. I plan on going back next year. Every person involved with this place works their butt off and has a fantastic attitude. Just got back from a 7 day backcountry bear hunt. The bear weren't there but our guide Oscar did everything he could to get them coming in.We had a wind storm, forest fires and heat wave so they weren't moving. This trip was still worth every penny and I'm glad that I went.

This review is long overdue. This past May (2024), I spent 6 days hunting out of the Kit Carson Camp with Cameron Outfitters. As you'll note from every other review--and I'll confirm--Cameron Outfitters go above and beyond for their hunters. From the camp-jacks and cook to the guides and owner Gary himself, everyone and everything was amazing. Having been with another outfitter the previous year, I can say with confidence that Gary and his family/crew are a clear cut above in doing everything they can to ensure not just a successful hunt, but a treasured experience as well. I can't recommend them highly enough. If you've never been, go. You won't regret it. I just booked a return trip myself and can't wait to get back out.

Just got back from a 3 day base camp bear hunt. I regret only that I don't possess the literary skills to adequately convey on here how amazing this group is. The other reviews talk about how Cameron Outfitters goes above and beyond for their hunters and I can say firsthand that, if anything, that sentiment is understated. From start to finish, our guide (Boyd) busted his rear end to make sure this was a memorable hunt. The trip culminated in me taking a beautiful blonde bear on the last day. As I said, I don't have the words to fully describe the experience, so I'll simply say that this was perfect. The guides, the staff, the cook...everybody was wonderful. I can't recommend them highly enough. If you've never been, go. You won't regret it.

I don't have a Google account so this is under my wife's name. I'm Bob Thompson. I hunted bear with Cameron from the 10th. to the 17th. of May this year. I hunted out of the Paradise camp and it would be hard to imagine a more beautiful place, it is very well named! Nez Perce pass was still not open so we were picked up at a pre arranged spot and taken to camp in snow runners. The camp itself is well situated in the White Cap Creek drainage. The accommodations are comfortable canvas topped cabins heated with wood stoves. From the minute I hit camp I knew it was going to be a great hunt, the Cameron family are wonderful people and fantastic hosts. Sherri was our cook and the food was abundant and delicious, if you leave her table hungry it's your own fault. The hunting was great, and the methods varied from traditional evening sits over baits to spot and stalk. The guides were very accommodating and would hunt how ever you wanted to, a word to the wise here, if you want to hunt on foot you had better be in peak physical condition, otherwise you will have a tough time in this terrain! Unfortunately the bear I was after didn't show himself during daylight hours and I got skunked but I was not disappointed in the least. I will return for a rematch as soon as possible! The Cameron family and their staff will do everything humanly possible to get your game and I give them my highest recommendation!

I recently had the pleasure of spending a week with Cameron Outfitters chasing mountain lions. The experience was first class and even more special as I reflect on it. My brother in law found Cameron somehow and invited me to join him on this lion hunt. After a beautiful snow mobile ride through the Bitteroot National Forest we arrived at the base camp. The Cameron family was there to welcome us. This is a true family outfitting business. Gary is the head honcho of the family and the business. His wife Sherri does all the cooking and you will NOT go hungry. The food all week was very good. The three sons Brute, Duke, and Oscar are your main guides. These guys make you feel like a part of the family while you are there. The star of the family and the base camp is Harry the Monkee. That’s right there is a very cool Monkee at camp. Another part of this amazing family. So on to the hunting. We left base camp at day break every day in hopes of cutting a good lion track. On the second day we cut w good one very close to camp. My brother in law killed his Lion that day after crossing a half frozen river following Brute. The hound dogs stayed on this Lion up and down the mountain and then across the river. He made a good shot and they brought the Lion back across the river! It was now my turn. The next day Duke cut a track returning from another camp and we unleashed the dogs! They have all great dogs but one stood out. Yeah, here comes the Rooster! When Rooster gets on their azz it’s going to be a long day. What a dog. Well Rooster got on this lion track and had it treed after a long chase! It was on heck of a hike up the mountain to the lion but we all got there! The lion literally jumped out of the tree just as I the shooter got there. Rooster was on this lion again and treed it about 500 yards around the side of this mountain. We shot our second lion that afternoon. This was a dream come true. My brother in law Field and I have been talking about this for years. What a beautiful animal. I could not believe we both killed our lion within three days! We continued to hunt wolf and bobcat the last few days and had a great time with that as well. We were successful in our plight but I can tell you even if one of us had not connected I still would have been happy with this trip. The unbelievable surroundings of the mountains, the good food, and the way the Cameron family run this outfitter and base camp make it a special place. I will never forget this trip and will always consider the Cameron’s like family. I would suggest this outfitter to anyone who wants to chase big game in the Montana Idaho mountains. You will NOT be disappointed. I will go back sometime and chase another big game animal and hang out with the Cameron’s. Superb trip all the way around.

This is a great family run business that does things the right way. I completed the opening week base camp elk hunt in Hell's Half Acre a week ago and have been thinking about the hunt since then. This area is as remote as you'll find in the lower 48 and is filled with untamed wilderness. The terrain itself is very steep and rugged, but manageable by mule and foot. I would recommend showing up in as best shape as you can to give yourself the best chance at harvesting an elk. While we did ride mules for several hours each day, showing up to camp an experienced rider is not required by any means. Gary Cameron, who is the owner, was our guide for the week and he worked tirelessly to give us an opportunity to harvest a bull. I can't speak enough of his dedication to his business and have the upmost respect for how he works for his clients. We were on elk every day of the hunt, and on the sixth day I was able to harvest a 5x6 bull that we had been after all week. While I did not see bear or mule deer on my hunt, the other groups in our camp did and those who were interested in harvesting one before their elk had the opportunity to do so. This was truly a hunt of a lifetime and I will be back again in the future. Owned by a rock solid family with a great staff and accommodations including the meals, and excellent service.

What a week! to spend a week with my son in this wilderness wonderland! we came to hunt black bear and my son did take a nice brown coated black bear but for me it was more about being with these fantastic hosts. they consistently went out of their way to make sure our hunt would be successful and also went above and beyond to welcome us as if we were old friends. that meant more to this old man. all accommodations met and often exceeded expectations. And, even though my score at the end of the hunt was Jud - 0, and Bear- 0 I do look forward to a rematch in two years. Thanks to Duke, Oscar, and Stevie for giving us such a memorable hunting experience!

This place is completely amazing. A friend and I just completed a backcountry bear hunt. First arrived at Kit Carson base camp and welcomed with a friendly smile and a warm meal. Headed out for the hunt after a big breakfast. We couldn’t believe how hard these guys work for you to get a bear. Good food everyday at the backcountry camp and amazing surroundings topped off with great hunts. Friend ended up with one bear and I got two. Best trip I have ever been on. Highly recommend this great group of people to hunt with.

Recently just got back from one of the best guided outfitting hunts we have ever enjoyed with Cameron Outfitters. My Husband and I booked a 3 day spring bear hunt and My husband harvested a beautiful chocolate bear. The accommodations with beautiful views of the Creek, along with our top notch guide Duke and exceptional food ( Sherri is a great chef) made this an incredible experience. Duke, Tyler and Sherri are some of the most hard -working hosts we have had the pleasure to hunt with. Our guides did everything to accommodate us. Their attention to detail with safety, maintenance of baits, and care of bears was second to none. Most importantly, they treated us in camp as family. Hunting is not just about harvesting an animal. Making new friends with great people that share the same values we enjoy as hunters is paramount to a memorable experience. If you want a bear of a lifetime, and an unforgettable overall experience, book a hunt with Cameron Outfitters. We hope to be going back soon!!

Gary, Sherri, our guide Robert, and their entire team and family exceeded our expectations. If you want to see old school work ethic, eat amazing food, talk with some of the most genuine people, and see majestic wilderness this is the place to hunt! Don't underestimate the terrain or weather, but our guide Robert did everything he could to make sure we were set for success. 100% 5 stars!! We can't wait to come back!

Man, seven months already. it was May of this year. Best time of my life, great Outfitter and the entire Team fantastic. These guys are half Antelope and half Bear yet personalities the most pleasant and accommodating. Plenty of Adrenaline moments and made the week a very memorable one. A great hunt, their experience was welcomed when it was obvious the Idaho mountains was no stroll in the woods and was kicking my tail. They gave me a great adventure, a great hunt, and the reason I got my Idaho Bear. By the way, Mrs. Cameron should publish a Cookbook, I'll buy one, never tasted such great food. I'm feeling like a new hunt is on the horizon. Thank you all!

These folks work extremely hard for their clients! I had a great time on my elk hunt and the Cameron group did everything possible to make me successful which happened on day 6 of the hunt. We covered a lot of ground trying to find the elk. The staff, stock, meals, and accommodations were great. This is an experience I won’t forget. This family run business is top notch. Be in the best shape you can. The elevation will take you down a notch or two for the first few days. I hadn’t been on a horse for many years but these mules know their way around the mountain and don’t hesitate to climb the steep trails. Brute Cameron was my guide and I really appreciated the knowledge he shared and we had some great conversation and laughs while glassing. I had the privilege of having a big group of guys together once it was time to pack out my bull. Whether an animal is harvested or not Cameron will make your time in the Paradise Camp one to remember!

I’d echo everything that was written below. This is a family run operation with some of the hardest working folks you’ll meet. They’re all genuine and intent on getting you animals. Even if you don’t harvest an animal, the experience alone in the backcountry was worth it. Just finished up a week long backcountry hunt. It’s very steep and hard terrain, but the country is largely untouched. Bears, wolves, elk, and mule deer are legitimate possibilities there (supposedly mountain lion and whitetail as well). In most places, the wolves run game off but here they live amongst them. The ride in is long but you learn quick. They take care of all horse/mule duties except you staying on top. I’ve already recommended this backcountry hunt to a few friends. Be prepared with good gear to deal with the rapidly changing elements and hard terrain. A good set of binoculars with a tripod is a critical piece of gear. And don’t forget your rain gear, gaiters and game bags. We slept in a few large tents in the backcountry camp with a nice wood stove to dry you out and warm you up after a long day of hunting. There were cots too but I’d still bring good insulated pad and bag. Obviously the better shape you’re in the better your hunt will be. I was in good shape for Montana last year but this steep country whipped me good. A solid 3-4 weeks of the stairmaster next time should help. Will definitely be back for a dedicated bear hunt. Wishing this good family all the best till then! ***only bit of advice would be to find a butcher that will ship meat home if you’re flying in. They advised me that the local(ish) places won’t ship for you***
