My daughter was able to shoot her first turkey with Bear Paw Outfitters. The experience could not have been better, we were on turkeys from first light, the guide was perfect for her as she was a bit nervous about the shot, so he was able to get her in a position where she felt good enough to pull the trigger. Couldn't be happier. The whole crew was great, couldn't recommend them more.

The most amazing experience from start to finish. Tim, the owner, is an expert and 4th generation Montanian. He walked the trail with us leading our 9 year old and narrated the trail ride with great stories and facts about the area. He was incredibly kind to all 9 of us and his horses were calm and wonderful. Highly recommend.

My hunting partner and I just returned from a 2/1 guided combo elk and deer hunt in southern Idaho. We hunted out of the Beaver Lodge facility, sleeping there and having our meals prepared there. We left the lodge @ 5:15 am and were driven in the guide's truck 30-45 minutes up forest service roads to our hunting area in units 77,78. We then hiked in the dark with headlamps 1-2 miles up the mountain, sometimes slowly hunting the terrain when it got light enough to shoot. We then sat on a saddle or other crossing point until late afternoon for the evening hunt down the mountain. During the 5 days of hunting, we saw 7 does, one small buck, and bumped a small herd of 6 cows and 1 spike twice, not getting a shot. There were 8 hunters in camp, with 3 guides. Only one 5 point bull was shot among us. The previous group of hunters also had only one bull elk shot. Dale stated a 40%-70% shot opportunity, but in our group, it was only 12.5% as well as 12.5% for the previous group. There are 400 tags allotted for the unit with 50 for non-residents. The units have adequate feed and water for the animals, however they are pounded hard by the hunters from the archery season on and the hunting areas are accessible by ATVs. In my opinion, the areas hunted had a low density of animals and is not worth the effort and dollars to hunt it. The accommodations and food were very good and the guide first rate, however not enough game to justify hunting with Bear paw Outfitters in those units. Greg Gosch

Great experience. Tim and Easton were pros. We did a two hour ride and got to take pictures at more than a few scenic spots. I had barely ridden before and by the end felt like I wanted to ride again because they taught me simple tricks to help me get better. 5 stars definitely worth it.

Had the best time at bear paw! The owner Tim and his grandson were so nice and made us feel welcome and safe. We did the 2 hour ride and it was perfect, so beautiful and scenic and the horses were well trained! Will definitely be going back

Four of us recently had a wonderful trail ride with Tim and his grandson Easton as our guides. Two of us were either horse owners or prior owners, and two were beginners. All of us are seniors. A young couple who were also along had never been on a horse before. I was impressed with the riding instruction, the emphasis on safety, and the gentle reminders once we were on the trail. Both guides were awesome, helpful and friendly. We all had a fantastic time. The horses were gentle and well trained, and the views were A-Mazing!

This is the second time we have ridden with Tim and Bear paw! If I could give him a 10 star review I would! We’re a military family that flew in from DC, we booked the ride asap cause we knew we had to do it again! The customer service with the scheduling was awesome we had a little mix up but they made it right and were so great for getting us in! Tim is a cool dude we enjoyed the conversation.Easton was also there on the ride and he was very helpful. We felt super safe , comfortable on his well behaved horses. if we come back out we will def be reaching out again!

We recently went on the 2 hr. scenic horsebackriding with Tim and his grandson Easton. They were both very knowledgeable and friendly. The horses were well cared for and the location was beautiful. My 9 year old grandaughter had a blast. It was definitely one of the highlights of our time spent in Montana. I would highly recommend!
★★★★★
Ride was a little over 2 hours. Tim was personable, knowledgeable, and safety-oriented. Horses were mellow and well-behaved. Definitely recommend. I will return.

We had a delightful horseback ride with our guide, Tim. He knows this land! From the minute we booked our ride till the minute we left, these people were great communicators and so knowledgeable of the area. I highly recommend them if you’re looking for a trail ride!
★★★★★
Hands down our favorite experience during our Montana vacation! Our tour was so small, only our family which was so nice. The owners are so kind and helpful and paid extra attention to my 7 year old. I felt safe the whole time and the views are INCREDIBLE.

my family and i (five altogether) were in montana for a wedding last week, aug. 18, 2023, and took a two hour scenic horse ride with bear paw. tim, the owner, went over many instructions before the ride to ensure we were safe and had a good time. we could not have had a better time and highly recommend bear paw.
★★☆☆☆
Trails were about a foot wide. Very Rocky trails my horse almost went down once not very safe for the horse or the customer. I used to work at a horse ranch and take people out on trail rides. Owner was pleasant. But if you are not an experienced rider I would not recommend. Definitely would never take a young family with kids out on these trails. You're not allowed to use your cell phone to take pictures while on the ride. When you get to your destination the owner will use your cell phone to take the pictures for you.

We had a great ride experience here. We did the three hour ride which I thought would be too long but ended up feeling just right. We rode up to a viewpoint over paradise valley, took some photos, and then rode back down. The horses seemed well cared for and most of us were experienced but one group member was a beginner and Tim did a great job teaching them.

Wow! Where do I begin. Let’s just say my husband and I had the best ride and experience. We are here on our honeymoon and traveling light so we were not prepared for the ride but were given gloves, hats and jackets upon arrival. Neither of us had ever been on a horse before and we were given direction and instructions that put us at ease on the ride. And the views are out of this world. If you go to Montana and are debating doing a horse ride, let me tell you it is worth it! My husband wished he had more cash on him to tip because we had that much fun on the trip! You can tell this business is run for the joy of the ride and their love for horses. We’d give them a ten star review if we could!

We had so much fun horseback riding! Bud had plenty of funny stories to share along with knowledge of the area. Beautiful views and goofy horses!

Tim and his granddaughter were great guides. Tim is first class when it comes to safety and that was appreciated. The route we took had amazing views going through meadows, creek bottoms and Aspens. Tim is a great American and exactly what you picture when you think of Big Sky Country. An additional plus side was the great conversation he and I had along the ride.

Traveled solo, with two kids, 10 and 15. Once in a lifetime trip for us. We were really excited about horseback riding, but it was a negative experience, and I wouldn't recommend this place. There are many other options in the area. Tim, the owner and guide, emphasized safety, which I was thankful. Yet, he wasn't clear and when my adopted daughter (orphanage, ESL) wasn't sure what to do, he spoke harshly to her and reprimanded her. He told her she should have "gotten it" and that it isn't rocket science. It was harmful to her, especially once we realized the horses pretty much ride themselves. Being kind and showing her would have gone a long way. Being harsh, actually had the opposite effect Tim wanted. We were all nervous the entire tour. There is a difference in being strict and serious about safety, but putting paying customers down, in front of others is never okay. Especially a child, whom deserved a good positive experience. The ride was ruined for me, because I was watching her the whole time, ensuring she was doing it right, so she wouldn't be scolded again. He didn't interact with us most of the tour, riding and talking only with the three women at the end of the line. His granddaughter, was amazing though. When I explained what happened, she would check in with us and make sure we were riding correctly. She was very sweet, watching out for our safety, but she is only there part of the summer. She was the only good thing about the 2 hour ride. Hope this helps others. First review I have ever written, but I wanted to bring awareness so others are more informed than we were before booking a ride at this establishment.

Beautiful, scenic trail rides. Tim knows what he’s doing and focuses on safety while also making sure you’re having fun. Horses are very well trained. My father and I rode Lucy and Moose, who were amazing, steady, and surefooted horses. I loved Moose so much I would have taken him home with me! Professional owners who really know what they’re doing. Would 10/10 recommend!
